1. Capture the idea in your own words
Start with a voice note or a few rough sentences about what you want to say and why. This is the part AI cannot supply: your angle, your experience, your opinion.
2. Turn it into a brief
Use AI to turn your notes into a structured brief: audience, goal, key points, format, length and what to avoid. Edit the brief — it is much cheaper to fix direction here than in a finished draft.
3. Draft from the brief
Give the model the brief, your notes and two examples of your past writing. Ask for one section at a time for long pieces; quality drops when a model writes 2,000 words in one go.
4. Edit like an editor, not a proofreader
- Cut the first paragraph if it only warms up.
- Replace general claims with your specific examples.
- Delete phrases you would never say out loud.
5. Fact-check
Every number, name, date and quote gets checked against a source you opened yourself. AI is confidently wrong often enough that this step is not optional.
6. Repurpose
Once the main piece is final, AI is excellent at reshaping it: a thread, a carousel outline, a newsletter intro, a short video script. Repurposing approved content is far safer than generating new content per platform.
